The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered highly valued property located next to the Buxton affordable housing project in Mombasa.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 21, the commission stated that the prime property was among two others that had been taken back from unnamed land grabbers.
Additionally, the statement noted that the recovered properties included government staff quarters in Nyali, Shanzu and the above-mentioned Buxton.
“The prime properties include three Estates with Government staff quarters in the Buxton area, Nyali, and Shanzu. The Buxton one is adjacent to the Government’s affordable housing project,” noted the statement.
Further, the statement indicated that EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak would together with Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir and other officials visit the properties and assess their state.
“CEO Twalib Mbarak accompanied by Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir and other Senior Government officials will undertake site visits to high-value public properties that the Commission has recovered from grabbers in Mombasa County,” noted the statement.

EACC Crackdown on Grabbed Property in Mombasa
The Commision has been after property grabbers in their latest crackdown including suspects in Mombasa.
Notably, the commission reclaimed 31 acres of land grabbed in Kwale County in October.
Also, EACC noted that the Ksh1.2 billion piece of land had been illegally sold to private developers.
Located in Chale Island, the property held historical and cultural significance, serving as a marine reserve and national monument, and it has now been restored to the public.
Earlier in June 2023, EACC revealed details of their investigations into a case where a former land commissioner grabbed a Ksh70 million government house in Nyali, Mombasa.

Ruto Launches Buxton Affordable Housing
Notably, the move came shortly after President William Ruto officially handed over to the owners the completed Phase 1 of the Buxton units which had 584 houses on November 2.
Additionally, the head of state led the groundbreaking ceremony of Buxton Phase 2, noting that the project will involve both social housing, affordable housing and market units.
Also, he reiterated that the affordable housing projects will allow the youth to get jobs, create homes for Kenyans and help boost the country’s economy.
“I am here today to tell you the former tenants that you will have the opportunity to live here. It has been possible because we have passed a bill on housing funds. The kitty will allow us to issue TPS.
“We are going to fund the TPS,” said President Ruto who also broke ground for the neighboring Mzizima estate,” he stated.
