A video of a man named Derrick Mbugua confronting two security guards over a parking dispute has gone viral with Kenyans on social media sharing mixed reactions.
It all started on Saturday, January 27, night at around 9.12 pm when Mbugua requested to park his car at a parking space controlled by Naivas Supermarket‘s Githurai 44 branch.
In a statement, Mbugua- a former aspirant for the Kahawa Wendani Member of County Assembly seat, said he had approached a security guard manning the area and requested to park his vehicle.
The security guard, Mbugua explained, allowed him to park but gave him a condition that he should not stay longer than three hours.
At the time, Mbugua only intended to have a quick meeting at a hotel adjacent to the Supermarket and promised not to take more than one hour.
Altercation After Watchman Clamped Mbugua’s Car
He would then come back 46 minutes later only to get shocked at the sight of his car clamped by the soldier.
According to him, the move appeared to be a well-calculated one with the guard allegedly teaming up with a colleague to compel him into paying Ksh1,000.
But the driver stood his ground and vowed not to pay the money. Consequently, an altercation ensued with Mbugua confronting the guard who was at the time silent without much to say.
“Unlock this clamp we agreed that I was to leave the car here and give you some “tea” in return, does the tea amount to Ksh1,000?” an angry Mbugua posed.
“You can’t ask me to give you Ksh1,000,” he added while insisting he had kept his word f not taking more than an hour.
Seconds later, the driver resorted to breaking the padlock used in the clamp amid warnings from the security officer and his colleague.

Seemingly irked by their own experiences in parking spaces, some Facebook users who commented lauded him noting that they would have reacted in the same way.

On his part, a user named Njuguna Martin explained how he once carried the clamp after a similar experience.
“I once did the same at Thika last year and I went with the clamp, they had to look for me for a whole week,” he commented.
At the same time, some users asked whether the former MCA aspirant was right in parking at the supermarket’s premises in the first place.
