SAFINA Party leader and businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has hit out at President William Ruto over the housing levy funds which he claims vanishes in the air.
Speaking during an ACK church service in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, Wanjigi slammed the President and his administration for failing to listen to Kenyans’ cries concerning the affordable housing project.
“The housing Bill was a bill that no one wanted, a major section of Kenyans did not support the housing bill, they were all against it,” Wanjigi said.
According to the former presidential candidate, Kenyans are suffering under the leadership of the Kenya Kwanza government due to taxation imposed on them despite difficult economic times.
“Every single day we wake up, every single day we go to bed knowing that yesterday was better than today, every day he is collapsing our nation economically, morally and socially,” Wanjigi said.

Wanjigi on Money Collected
Jimmy Wanjigi noted that when the housing levy was taken to court and declared unconstitutional it was revealed that it is a tax but one that is not outlined in the budget.
“The court declared bill unconstitutional and that means that the money collected from Kenyans disappeared in the air. The president must return the money that was collected to the people of Kenya,” he said.
He added that the President is allowed to continue with his affordable housing project, without taxing Kenyans for it.
Also, the former SAFINA Party presidential candidate blamed the head of state for the problems experienced in the country.
“We have a serious problem in this country and that problem is called Willam Samoei Ruto.
“He is collapsing our country. What country are we going to have in in the next four years? He works for us; he is not our boss,” Wanjigi stated.

Court of Appeal Ruling on Housing Levy
Wanjigi’s utterances comes after the Court of Appeal ruled against payment of the housing levy.
“The trial Court held that the Housing Levy was introduced without a legal framework. It also held that the levy was targeting a section of Kenyans. In our view, the public interest lies in awaiting the determination of the appeal,” reads the ruling in part.
President Ruto however, vowed to press ahead with the project regardless, claiming to have public support that was tantamount to an endorsement from God.
“I want to tell the few that have gone to court to challenge the Housing Fund that we will go forward with it. They want to deny youths and other Kenyans an opportunity to work for their country, but we will not allow it, it will continue,” said Ruto during a public rally in Meru County.
