One person has been killed and five others injured in an accident involving a matatu and a trailer in Molo area of Nakuru County.
According to the driver of the trailer, the matatu belonging to Sifa Line Company was heading towards Eldoret direction before the Sunday, May 26, morning accident.
However, upon reaching Jolly Farm in Molo, the driver of the matatu tried to overtake the trailer but ended up ramming into its rear.
“I drove from Salgaa smoothly, and when I got to Jolly Farm, there was no vehicle in front of me, and I was in my lane. The matatu started overtaking, and when I looked back, I didn’t see any vehicle behind me. I then heard the impact when it hit the trailer. I stopped and then we started rescuing people,” the driver said.
According to eyewitnesses, one person died on the spot.
“We witnessed an accident on the highway today morning, the matatu rammed into the trailer. Several people have been injured, and one person had been killed,” said one witness.
“We have helped the injured and taken them to the hospital while the one who died has been taken to Molo mortuary.”
The body of the deceased 24-year-old woman was transported to the Molo Sub-County Hospital morgue, while five others continue to receive treatment.
Reports indicate that traffic police officers rushed to the scene and moved the vehicles to the Molo Police Station.

Accident Near Salgaa
This comes a day after four people were killed in an accident involving a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu and a truck along the Nakuru – Eldoret Highway.
According to Nakuru County police boss Samuel Ndanyi, the crash happened in Migaa area of Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, May 25, at around 3.30am.

Ndanyi said the matatu was travelling from Eldoret direction adding that four women were among the casualties.
“Eight people are currently receiving treatment at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital. The bodies have been taken to Nakuru County mortuary,” Ndanyi said.

Thika Superhighway Crash
Similarly, several casualties were reported following a tragic accident involving a bus and a lorry along the Thika Superhighway on the same day.
The accident involved several vehicles including a Nairobi Technical Training Institute bus.
