A 22-storey building under construction in Westlands, Nairobi, partially collapsed during the night, leaving several workers trapped while others managed to escape unhurt.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, out of the four workers involved, two remain trapped as rescue teams continue search-and-rescue operations on site.

The incident occurred along School Lane in the Brookside area. The 22-storey structure in Westlands gave way in part opposite Gardaworld and KK Security offices, and near Principal Place, where VFS Global operates.
Another Building Collapses in Kaptebeswet, Kericho County
Kenya Red Cross also confirmed several people are feared to be trapped in another building under construction that collapsed in the Kaptebeswet Bypass area, Kericho County.
The building collapsed while workers were still on site, and construction equipment is visible in the images shared.
Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations are currently underway as officials work to rescue people trapped inside.
The County Government of Kericho confirmed that it has received reports of the collapse at Kaptebeswet, Kipchebor Ward.
In a statement, the county stated that it has swiftly dispatched its emergency response teams, including firefighting units and ambulances, to the scene.
“In addition, we are mobilizing excavators and other heavy machinery to support ongoing rescue efforts,” the county said.
Westlands Building, Among Other Nairobi Buildings that Have Collapsed
Recently, several similar construction accidents have been reported in Nairobi, raising concerns over building safety and regulatory compliance in high-rise developments across the city.

The most recent major incident occurred in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, where a building collapsed on March 16, 2026, during an attempted demolition along the Nairobi River riparian corridor. Authorities confirmed that four people died and four others were rescued, with at least one injured and others still unaccounted for as rescue operations continued.
The collapse happened at Blue Estate in Kamukunji Sub‑County adjacent to structures being cleared under the Nairobi River Regeneration Project.
A separate incident in early February 2026 involved a building collapse along Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi CBD, leaving several workers injured.
Earlier in January 2026, a multi‑storey building under construction collapsed in South C, trapping at least two people and resulting in fatalities. The cause was linked to structural issues and oversight lapses, prompting calls for improved inspection and enforcement by regulatory authorities.

Sakaja Addresses Shauri Moyo Building Collapse
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja broke the silence following a building collapse at Blue Estate in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, on Monday, March 16, 2026.
In a statement, the Nairobi City County administration, led by Sakaja, conveyed its condolences to the families of the four people who died in the incident.
The county government confirmed that search-and-rescue operations at the scene have concluded.
“Search and rescue operations at the scene in Kamukunji Sub-County have now been successfully concluded, and response teams have been demobilised,” the county said.
