A fatal road accident was reported at Mau Summit at around 8:00 am on October 4, 2026, involving a pickup truck, a small car, and a stationary lorry.
Preliminary reports indicate that the pickup truck hit the car from behind before the driver lost control and crashed into the lorry, which was parked by the roadside.
Motorists approaching Mau Summit from both the Nakuru and Kericho sides have been advised to reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid overtaking.
Drivers have also been urged to give way to rescue teams operating at the scene.
Claims have emerged alleging that the pickup driver may have been intoxicated.
However, the driver’s condition and the circumstances surrounding the accident had not been officially confirmed.
In addition, authorities had not confirmed the number of casualties at the time of reporting, while they were at the scene responding to the incident.
Kenyans Call for NTSA Action after Mau Summit Road Accident
Following the accident, some social media users have called on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to conduct a major crackdown on motorists driving while using mobile phones or under the influence of alcohol.
One user argued that motorists found driving while using phones or under the influence of alcohol should face immediate jail terms or have their driving licenses canceled for two years.
“It is time NTSA did a MAJOR swoop on the roads. Driving using a phone, driving under the influence, among others, should have an immediate jail sentence or Licence cancellation for 2 years,” a member of the public emphasized.
Others questioned whether a breathalyzer test had been conducted, asking about the reading from the device.
Some also raised the issue of distracted driving, with one claiming to have seen many motorists driving while using TikTok.
Several members of the public have asked whether there were fatalities following the crash, while others expressed concern over the condition of those involved.
