A major multi-vehicle crash has been reported near Kijabe along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, with casualties feared.
In a post on August 10, the Kenya Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association alerted followers to the accident and shared video footage from the scene.
“FATAL ACCIDENT ALERT. At Kijabe along Nairobi – Naivasha highway,” the statement read.

Video from the scene shows a white vehicle with massive front-end damage, scattered debris, oil on the road, and multiple bodies laid out on the ground as responders and bystanders gather.
The exact number of people affected and the circumstances surrounding the crash had not been confirmed in the information provided.
Nairobi-Nakuru highway, including the Kijabe area, is a known high-risk corridor in Kenya with repeated multi-vehicle crashes often involving matatus and lorries.
Truck Accident Blocks Maai Mahiu Escarpment Road
Traffic flow at the Maai Mahiu Escarpment was disrupted after a road accident involving two trucks and a private car.
According to an alert issued on August 4 by the Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LODDCA), the crash occurred along the escarpment as one of the trucks reportedly came to rest across the road, completely blocking the carriageway.
“There has been an accident along the Mai Mahiu escarpment involving 2 trucks and a private vehicle. One of the trucks has completely blocked the road,” the association confirmed.
Motorists using the route were advised to expect heavy traffic delays as efforts to clear the scene continue.
Videos Capture Extent of Damage at Crash Scene
Videos shared from the scene show the impact from the collision, with one truck sustaining extensive damage to its cab while a white sedan was overturned near the roadside.

A silver private car also suffered significant damage, and debris was strewn across the carriageway.

Several bystanders were seen at the scene as vehicles remained stationary on both sides of the road.
The footage also shows a long line of trucks and other motorists unable to proceed because one of the trucks was blocking the roadway. The crash occurred on the steep Mai Mahiu escarpment, where foggy conditions reduced visibility.

The Nairobi–Nakuru Highway has witnessed several serious road accidents in 2026, highlighting ongoing safety concerns along the busy transport corridor.

On 5 January, nine people, including two minors, died in a collision involving a bus and a matatu near Naivasha. Just weeks later, on 19 January, seven people were killed and at least 11 others injured after a truck rammed into a matatu at Kariandusi.
Another major tragedy occurred on 4 April in the Gilgil–Kariandusi area, where 10 people lost their lives after a public service vehicle crashed into a stalled trailer. On 15 June, a nine-vehicle pile-up in the Karai area claimed the life of a senior police officer and left several other people injured.
More recently, on 9 July, a multi-vehicle collision near Kijabe caused significant traffic disruption along the highway, adding to the growing list of major crashes reported on the route in 2026.
