Trio Mio, born Mario TJ Cassella (TJ means Thanks Jesus), is widely known for his important role in popularizing the Genge tone genre in Kenya.
He was born on October 22, 2004, in Umoja One, Nairobi, Kenya, to a Kenyan mother and a father of Italian and Congolese descent.
Trio is a Kenyan rapper, singer, performer, and songwriter known for his hit single “Cheza Kama Wewe.“
Through the same hit song that earned him fame, fans have acknowledged him for his dynamic sound and success in the Kenyan music industry.
Education
He went to Unity Primary School in Embakasi West Constituency, Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2022, he completed his high school education at Mumbuni High School, Machakos County.

Family
Trio Mio is the youngest of four siblings, two sisters and a brother.
He comes from a family of musicians; his father was a Rhumba musician who inspired his music career, his mother used to sing in a church choir, and his brother, popularly known as BigTing AP, is also into music, and he was the one who came up with the name Trio Mio.
His mother, Irma Sofia Sakwa, is actively involved in his career and manages his affairs as a public figure.
Trio is also the one who inspired his big brother’s music career.
Career Journey
At the age of eleven, while still in class seven, Trio started writing his rap songs and performing in front of his classmates.
He rose to fame in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when he released the hit single “Cheza Kama Wewe,” which he later remixed featuring Exray, Mejja, and Nellythegoon.
In the same year, he released his debut EP, “Son of the City,” which included Chonjo, Zubizuu, Madimanga, Niko Busy, Cheza Kama Wewe, and Vile Inafaa.

Collaborations
MJ has been able to do notable collaborations with both Kenyan and international artists, including Wiz Khalifa, Tunu, Savara, Moeazy, Anweezy, Shari Afrika, Scar Mkadinali, Mejja, Ssaru, Masauti, Breeder LW, Khaligraph Jones, and many more.
Awards
He won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Unkut Africa Awards in 2021. In 2023, he was named Male Music Influencer at the Kenya Influencers (KIA) Awards.
He was nominated for the “Rising Star” category in January 2024 at the Danish Music Awards, and he won Composer of the Year.
With a consistent series of releasing chart-topping singles and tactical collaborations, Trio has successfully drawn the attention of both international and Kenyan fans, cementing his presence on the global music stage.
