The decomposing body of a student at Rongo University in Migori County has been found inside a well near the institution days after he went missing.
The body of Emmanuel Nyamweya was found inside a well located near the institution’s hostels on the morning of Wednesday, March 12.

Preliminary reports indicate that the first-year English Literature student who has been staying with his elder brother, a fellow student at Rongo University, went missing on Sunday.
His brother said the last time he saw the deceased was on Sunday night when he left him in the sitting room of their rented house before retiring to bed.

However, he said that when he woke up on Monday morning, he found Nyamweya missing.

This was before neighbors, who have been using the well located near Yatta Hostel, detected a bad smell on Wednesday.

They later noticed the dead body and after it was retrieved, confirmed that it was that of Nyamweya’s.
Rongo University is located in Migori County and was awarded a charter in 2016.
The death comes barely days after two other students from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) died following a drowning incident while swimming in the Titanic dam, Kiambu county.
The two students were identified as Abel Ontuga Mikaye and Dansteph Matoke.
According to a Police report, the incident happened during a fun day out at the popular ‘park and chill’ spot off Thika Road in the Mugutha area of Juja sub-county.
The students however drowned with the efforts of eyewitnesses to rescue them turning futile.
This prompted residents to inform Police officers in Juja who swiftly responded and visited the scene.

Central Sub-County Police Commander Doris Kimeli while confirming the incident said the victims were two male students aged 21 and 22.

Kimeli said the officers had since launched investigations to establish hos the students died.
Kiambu County divers managed to retrieve the bodies from the dam before they were moved to General Kago Hospital Mortuary in Thika ahead of post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
These two incidents highlight the lurking dangers university students find themselves in during their daily activities and social engagements.
In February, three male students from the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) located in Kwa Vonza, Kitui County, died on the spot following a tragic road accident.
