Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has confirmed that a plane he was traveling in was forced to make an emergency landing in the Gishungo area, Kikuyu Constituency.
In a statement on Wednesday, May 8, morning, Mwaura said he was in the chopper with Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Idriss Ahmed after their trip to Nyando in Kisumu where they delivered relief food.

However, the Spokesperson allayed fears about their safety and assured that they got home safely.
“Our plane had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to poor weather conditions,” stated Mwaura.

“Idriss Ahmed the Secretary General of the Kenya Redcross and I had gone to Nyando in Kisumu to deliver relief of Non-Food Items (NFIs) to the Floods Affected Persons (FAPs). We arrived home safely, and we thank GOD for this.”

In a video shared on his X account, Mwaura was seen interacting with locals while explaining the situation they faced due to bad weather conditions.
The spokesperson while addressing locals, majority of whom were children, explained that the airplane would spend the night in the village and pleaded with children to stay away.
Later in the video, local police arrived and Mwaura was heard requesting them to keep the plane secure for the night and promised that the pilot would resume his journey back to Nairobi the following morning.

“This is Idriss, Kenya Red Cross boss we had had to land here because the plane can’t go beyond this point,” he said.
Details about what exactly the pilot encountered remain scanty. On Tuesday, Mwaura and other stakeholders led in the exercise of distributing relief items including blankets and food to the victims whose houses were swept away by the ravaging River Nyando floods.
According to Mwaura, the floods in Nyando left hundreds displaced hence the need for humani9tarian assistance. In his statement, the Spokesperson said the government is working with development partners such as the Kenya Redcross in helping the floods affected persons totaling over 40,000 in the Nyanza region and over 224,000 countrywide.
