National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya had earlier said they had built a “watertight case”, and that the Deputy President would not even get a second chance, adding that his activities over the weekend went too far.
“Even those who are with him have expressed their willingness to sign the impeachment motion, arguing that once he is out of the office, his powers will be taken away,” the MP said.

Claims Against Gachagua
Some of the Deputy President’s “crimes” that have rattled MPs include his infamous statement in Kericho County last February regarding shareholding in the Kenya Kwanza government.
He is also accused of engaging in divisive politics by claiming to speak for the Mt. Kenya region at the expense of other regions, breaching the Official Secrets Act, and undermining the collective responsibility of the Cabinet.
Others include failing to honor his office by publicly distancing himself from the Cabinet’s decision on the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
At the time, he stated that he was listening to the ground, which violated the Cabinet’s collective responsibility and undermined public confidence in the Cabinet.
