The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu , who was attacked in a drive-by incident along Magadi Road on September 9, 2025.
In a statement on September 10, DCI stated that experts from the DCI Homicide Bureau and the National Forensic Laboratory have examined the scene and collected critical evidence to aid the probe.
According to the agency, a team of detectives led by the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO), Nairobi, immediately visited the scene after the incident was reported.
“We wish to inform the public that immediately the incident was reported, the scene was visited by a team of detectives under the leadership of RCIO Nairobi. After securing the scene, detectives from the DCI Homicide Bureau, supported by experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, carefully examined the scene and collected critical evidence essential to the investigations,” read the statement.
The authority has stated that it remains committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice.

Additionally, their investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding the incident.
DCI has appealed for calm during this challenging time and requests the public’s cooperation as they work to resolve the case.
“We are determined to provide the justice that Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu and his loved ones deserve,” read the statement.
Further, the Authority expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the prominent city lawyer and assured the public of its commitment to bringing those behind the killing to justice.

The DCI added that it will keep the public informed as inquiries continue.

Profile of Kyalo Mbobu
Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was a Nairobi-based lawyer, a former chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), and a governance expert with nearly three decades of experience as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
He served as PPDT chairperson, overseeing disputes within political parties and arising from the electoral process.

He had been an advocate of the High Court for over 29 years, specializing in litigation, and was widely recognized as an expert in governance matters.
At the time of his death, he was also a lecturer at Multimedia University.
Mbobu was driving alone when a hooded assailant, riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, struck during a traffic jam. The gunman reportedly dismounted, shattered the driver’s side window, and fired multiple shots at close range.
