Global Oil Prices Hike Ahead of EPRA Review
In the days leading up to the July–August fuel price review, the Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) weekly bulletin released on Friday, July 11, reported a hike in Global oil prices.
Moreover, during the week ending July 10, international oil markets reacted to renewed concerns over US trade tensions and high global demand.
Murban crude prices rose marginally from $68.09 to $70.15 per barrel, as fears of US tariff hikes outweighed expectations of increased output from OPEC+.
On the other hand, tensions in the Middle East also added pressure to prices. A sharp increase was recorded after Israel launched air strikes on Iranian military and nuclear targets.
At the same time, the US threatened new sanctions on Russia and delayed previously scheduled tariff hikes.
As a result, Brent crude rose by $1.72 (2.5%) to $70.36 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) jumped $1.88 (2.8%) to $68.45.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia increased the price of its Arab Light crude by $2.20 per barrel for August deliveries to Asia—the highest level in four months.
