Collins Kibet, a grandson of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, has been sentences to jail.
Kibet was committed for contempt of court after failing to comply with an order directing him to enrol his two children in school.
The court found that Kibet had wilfully disobeyed previous directives requiring him to take responsibility for the children’s education and general welfare, despite repeated warnings and ongoing legal proceedings.
The ruling comes after a prolonged legal battle in which Kibet was accused of neglecting his parental duties.
Further, the children’s mother raised concerns over their inability to attend school and his inability to provide.

Moreover, the news comes nearly a year after Kibet was sentenced to seven days in jail in September 2024 for defying child support orders related to the same children.
At the time, Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion ruled that Kibet had shown disregard for the court’s directive to provide for the minors’ upkeep and education.
Kibet had been arrested in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, and brought before the court following months of evasion.
Additionally, his estranged wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, had moved to court accusing him of abandoning their children and failing to pay school fees at Mustard Seed International School.
Her lawyer, Elizabeth Wangari, told the court that the children’s learning had been disrupted, causing them emotional distress.

“Despite being located and brought to the police station, our attempts to reach an out-of-court settlement with him collapsed,” Wangari stated while accusing Kibet.
During that hearing, Kibet’s legal team argued that he was struggling financially and caught in succession battles over the estates of both his late father, Jonathan Moi, and grandfather, Daniel Moi.
The lawyer pleaded with the court for more time, claiming Kibet had no stable income and had not been formally served with summons or informed of the warrant of arrest.
“Our client is not running away from responsibility but genuinely lacks the capacity to meet the high demands being made. He has no source of income, and the amount requested is allegedly in the millions,” the lawyer said.
