Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, May 2, 2025, described the late President Daniel Arap Moi as a visionary leader who empowered and embraced the youth during his tenure.
Speaking at the wedding of the son of former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Uhuru described Moi as a political father who mentored him in matters of leadership and governance.

“President Moi was not afraid of young people, unlike some government leaders today,” he said.
Uhuru further noted that while his biological father, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, instilled political instincts in him, it was President Moi who shaped and trained him in the practical aspects of politics.

Uhuru Shares Heartfelt Advice to the Couple
Uhuru, with a touch of humour, remarked that he would keep his speech brief to avoid getting into trouble with political parties that allied with the government.
During the ceremony, the former president took the opportunity not only to bless the union of Kimoi (the groom) and Ivy (the bride) but also to deliver a heartfelt message and wish the couple a joyous, prosperous life.

“You have been told to love one another, but I want to add that you are also required to be best friends. Friendship lasts, so be each other’s companion through everything. Friendship never fades, always remember that,” Uhuru said.

Kalonzo Joins Former President at the Wedding
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka joined the former President at the wedding ceremony. Kalonzo also took a moment to congratulate the couple, offering his heartfelt wishes for their future together filled with love and happiness.
“My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple as you begin this wonderful journey together. May your love grow deeper with each day you share,” he said.

Uhuru Calls on Youths to Rise Against Bad Governance
This was the second time in a week when the former President urged young people to rise and defend themselves against bad governance.
In an earlier speech, the former president reminded the youth that the future belongs to them, reaffirming his commitment to supporting them as they stand up against bad governance.
“You are our future. Do not be cowards. We are here to support and guide you. Do not be intimidated,” he stated.
He urged them to rise against bad governance and take charge of their future, reminiding them that change is in their hands.
