An internal explosion injured several workers at a factory in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday evening, authorities said.
The blast resulted from a technical malfunction during operations. No gas leaks or hazardous material releases were detected.
Civil Defence teams responded within minutes, secured the site, and contained the incident.
The Ministry of Interior did not disclose the exact location of the explosion. However, a source familiar with the matter, as reported by Reuters, said the blast occurred at the Barzan gas plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City and was caused by an operational error.
A Reuters witness reported hearing a loud boom in Doha.
Limited Impact on Operations
Officials described the explosion as isolated to one facility. Monitoring continued at the site, but no further incidents were reported. The ministry did not disclose the exact number of injuries and the condition of those affected.

Ras Laffan Industrial City serves as the centre of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry. Located on the northern coast, it houses 14 LNG trains with a combined production capacity of approximately 77 million metric tonnes per annum.
The complex accounts for roughly one-fifth of global LNG supply and includes processing plants, storage terminals, and export jetties capable of handling the world’s largest LNG carriers.
Recent History of Disruptions
The facility has faced significant challenges earlier this year. In March 2026, Iranian missile and drone attacks damaged parts of the complex, reducing LNG export capacity by about 17%. Repairs on the affected units are expected to take three to five years.
Those strikes led QatarEnergy to declare force majeure on LNG shipments and halted production temporarily.
Social media reports circulated videos and claims of a large blast heard across the area, prompting speculation.
Authorities moved quickly to counter rumours, stressing that the event was industrial and contained.

Economic and Strategic Importance
Qatar ranks among the world’s top LNG exporters. Ras Laffan’s output supports energy needs in Asia, Europe, and beyond.
The complex also hosts gas-to-liquids plants, refineries, and associated infrastructure, making it central to Qatar’s economy and global energy markets.
Any disruption at the site draws international attention. However, officials indicated that Sunday’s explosion did not affect main LNG production trains or export terminals.
Investigations into the exact cause of the technical malfunction are underway. QatarEnergy and relevant authorities have not issued statements on potential downtime or financial impact.
Ras Laffan operates under strict industrial safety standards. The rapid response by Civil Defence teams aligned with established emergency protocols for the industrial zone. No public evacuation or shelter-in-place orders were issued.
