Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested five suspects in relation to a fraudulent recruitment scheme targeting Kenyans seeking jobs abroad.
In a statement, DCI on Saturday, June 1, said that the suspects who include a foreigner are believed to be masterminds behind a fraudulent drive promising overseas jobs.
“Detectives from Nairobi Regional Headquarters have arrested five suspects believed to be the masterminds behind a fraudulent recruitment drive for overseas jobs within Nairobi and its environs,” read part of the statement.
The detectives revealed that the foreign national and four other Kenyans were arrested following a tip-off from the public about activities of two suspicious recruitment agencies.
According to the detectives, the suspects working with agencies identified as Alhanawa Jobs and Supply Link Ventures Ltd were purporting to be recruiting for overseas jobs at KCB sports club grounds.
DCI Rescues Kenyans Targeted in Foreign Jobs Scam
DCI further noted that following the sting operation, they were able to rescue the jobseekers who had availed themselves at the venue.

“Approximately 1000 jobseekers were snatched from the fangs of the snake oil merchants whose sole mission was to fleece them off their hard-earned cash,” the statement adds,
The detectives said that preliminary investigations revealed that the National Employment Authority (NEA) had flagged the exercise as a scam.
Meanwhile, DCI has announced that the hunt is on for three other individuals namely who managed to escape.
“The hunt is on for three individuals namely Hannah Mbugua, Gladys Oluasa and Lucy Wanjiru who managed to escape the police dragnet,” added DCI.
Members of the public have been advised to remain vigilant and to report such agencies to the police for action.

Cases of Kenyans seeking jobs abroad being scammed by agencies and agents have been on the rise as many Kenyans continue to try their lack overseas.

To avoid being conned while seeking jobs abroad, note that the Kenyan government through the National Employment Authority keeps a record of licensed foreign and local recruitment agencies.
The list can be accessed through the National Employment Authority Integrated Management System (NEAIMS) which is currently connecting 25,400 job seekers with 8,074 employers.
Interested Kenyans can connect with the recruiters by clicking www.neaims.go.ke and then selecting the “List of Private Employment Agencies” tab on the homepage.
According to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs says, Kenyans seeking to leave the country should first confirm whether the agent is licensed and registered with the National Employment Authority via the NEAIMS website.
