Former Machakos Town member of Parliament Victor Munyaka has rejected an appointment by President William Ruto.
Ruto appointed him to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre, for a period of three years effective 4th in a gazette notice dated October 3.
However, Munyaka has declined the appointment, saying that the government was going through a negative political climate.
In his letter, the former MP explained that the political climate could negatively impact the government’s economic transformation agenda, and he did not want to be a part of the failure.

“I have learnt of my appointment by His Excellency, President William Ruto as the chairman of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre through a Kenya Gazette notice dated 3rd October 2024.
I thank the Head of State for offering me the opportunity to serve Kenyans in such a capacity.
However, after soul-searching, extensive consultations and in consideration of the current political climate that threatens the realization of the government’s economic transformation agenda, I have made the difficult decision to respectfully decline this appointment.
Thank you again for considering me for this position. I wish you and your administration success in leading our country.”

Politicians Who Have Rejected Ruto’s Appointments
In July, former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae rejected an appointment by Ruto to the presidential task force on addressing human resources in the health sector.
She explained that she was on maternity leave, and the development would affect her ability to work effectively at the time.
In the same month, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo rejected an appointment to a task force formed to carry out a comprehensive audit of the country’s public debt.
LSK issued a statement announcing that Odhiambo rejected Ruto’s appointment, stating that the presidential task force is unconstitutional and infringes on the roles of the Auditor General.
“The LSK has thus resolved that neither our president nor any of our members shall take up appointments or participate in the said task force,” read the statement.
“LSK, under its statutory mandate, advises the President to refrain from usurping the constitutional powers of the Auditor-General through Executive Orders and allow the Auditor-General to perform her constitutional duties.”
