Eight police officers including the Gigiri police station OCPD have been interdicted in connection to the escape of 13 suspects held at the station.
According to the Acting Police Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, the escape could have been orchestrated by officers at the station.
Additionally, Gigiri OCS and other officers have been arrested as investigation into the matter continues.
The station has been marked as a crime scene and a yellow tape mounted around the entrance. Also, to police officials were summoned to the crime scene.
The 13 suspects, including the prime suspect in Kware dumpsite murders Collins Jumaisi escaped from Gigiri police station on Tuesday, August 20, morning.

How the Suspects Escaped Police Custody
The Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin earlier explained that the 13 suspects cut a wire mesh in the police cell.
They then scaled a perimeter wall and disappeared. According to him 12 of the individuals who escaped custody were Eritreans.
Also, Amin said that police officers at the station only learnt about the escape in the morning when they went to serve the suspects breakfast.
They then alerted the police bosses of the station who came and confirmed that the 13 were indeed missing.
“It is unfortunate this has happened, but we are pursuing the matter for action,” said Amin.

Suspects Earlier Confession to Killings
Police reported that the 33-year-old suspect confessed to being a serial killer and that his wife was his first suspect.
When he was arrested, the suspect is claimed to have taken DCI officers to his single room house in Kware area, located about 100 meters from the crime scene.
The officers then conducted a quick search in the house and recovered several items which they noted could have been used in the execution of the crimes.
Furthermore, DCI Director Amin said that when interrogated, the suspect confessed to have lured, killed and disposed 42 female bodies at the Kware dump site. All murdered took place between 2022 and July 11, 2024.
