Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen after being asked to record a statement with the DCI over his allegations that President William Ruto is working with Al-Shabaab, following his return from the USA.
Gachagua said he cannot assist with the investigations, citing various reasons.
One of the reasons he has vowed to decline recording the statement is that the government has not initiated any investigations against President William Ruto.
“I saw the Ministry of Interior saying we should be asked to help with the investigations in this matter. We cannot assist in any investigations because the Kenyan government has not initiated any investigations against William Ruto,” said Gachagua.
The former Deputy President argued that the American Senate has initiated the investigations, and if there is a need to assist, he will cooperate with the American Senate, but not the Kenyan government.
Gachagua Dares Murkomen to Initiate His Arrest
Gachagua further stated that the Kenyan government cannot investigate President William Ruto because the police work under him, and all the issues his administration has been criticized for—including alleged extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances—have been linked to the police serving in his government.
“There is nobody who is a fool enough to go and report William Ruto to the Kenyan police nothing would be done against it,” the former Deputy President said.

Additionally, Gachagua dared the Interior CS to arrest him once he returns to the country, accusing him of hypocrisy over his past dealings with Al-Shabaab. He claimed that Murkomen, while serving as Interior CS, had publicly stated he would negotiate with the militant group to secure the release of five chiefs abducted in northern Kenya.
According to Gachagua, those chiefs were later released after what he described as “successful negotiations,” proof that the CS knew exactly who he was dealing with.
Murkomen Reveals Gachagua will Record Statement
Gachagua argued that Murkomen therefore has more first-hand information about Al-Shabaab’s leadership than anyone else in government, and should be the one to brief Kenyans, the international community, and the Americans on the matter, rather than targeting him for statements he made in the United States.

The former Deputy’s response comes hours after Muromen revealed that the former Deputy President will record a statement once he gets back into the country regarding his allegations.
“I saw another man who sat where you are sitting the other day, disparaging our country, talking about issues of insecurity as if it were a joke. He thinks that he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America for him to get votes.
Because he has said that he has information and he knows and that he has an agent who is holding meetings with Al-Shabaab, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.
