The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party, through its Director of Communications Manasse Nyainda, has clarified the position of party chairman Gideon Moi regarding support for the current regime.
In a statement issued on July 24, 2025, KANU dismissed a resurfaced video circulating on social media as misleading, clarifying that it falsely suggests party chairman Gideon Moi is currently aligning himself with President Ruto’s administration.
“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading video clip that has resurfaced on social media, falsely suggesting that Hon. Gideon Moi is currently aligning himself with the current regime,” read part of the statement.
Additionally, KANU has set the record straight that the party’s chairman has neither the desire nor the inclination to support this regime.
KANU Clarifies Gideon Moi Supporting Ruto
The party has fact-checked the video and found that the clip in question was recorded during the funeral of the late Hosea Kiplagat in 2021.
Moreover, KANU stated that the video has been taken out of context and paired with a distorted transcription intended to deliberately mislead the public.
The party further noted that the calculated timing of this shallow and futile misinformation campaign aimed at duping the public is telling.
In the viral video, the party chairman said;
“Don’t take my differences with President William Ruto seriously, don’t be surprised I might support him soon.”

Gideon Moi on Political Alliances
The party reaffirmed that decisions regarding political alliances are made through formal internal structures and are collectively sanctioned by both its leadership and membership.
“Fundamental decisions about political alliances are sanctioned through structured party processes, collectively by the leadership and membership of the party,” read part of the statement.

Kenyans React to the Viral Video
The video has sparked fresh discussions online, with Kenyans drawing varied conclusions.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, has led some Kenyans to question whether a political realignment may be in the works — a claim KANU has strongly denied.
A Facebook user, Charles Taylor, commented: “That video of Gideon K. Moi telling people not to worry about his differences with President Ruto has been posted several times today by KANU people. Is it a sign that Gideon Moi will have a handshake with WSR? Is something building up?”
However, KANU has stressed that until the party’s leadership and membership collectively determine its next political course and affiliation, party chairman Gideon Moi will remain firmly in place and uninvolved in any purported alignments.
