The Islamic Republic of Iran has responded to reports published by Kenyan news outlets linking the country to alleged planned terrorist attacks in Kenya.
The reports, which cited unnamed National Intelligence Service (NIS) sources, claimed Iran may be planning retaliatory attacks against Israel on embassies and other locations in Kenya during the anniversary of the June 25 protests.
In a press release dated Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Spokesperson of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi dismissed the claims as “delusional and fabricated scenarios” which the embassy said are aimed at straining the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Kenya and Iran.
“Such delusional and fabricated scenarios are the product of hostile elements—particularly the Zionist Israeli regime—who seek to undermine the longstanding and brotherly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Kenya, which have been built over decades on goodwill and mutual trust,” the spokesperson stated.
Iran responds to reports of attacking Kenya
According to the statement, Iran “categorically rejects” any connection to the alleged plans and affirms that it has “no aligned operatives” in Kenya.
It asserted that the individuals or groups mentioned in the reports are “entirely unfounded.”
Iran further accused unnamed foreign actors of pushing a malicious agenda aimed at damaging its relations with Kenya and other nations.
“The Zionist regime continues to rely on diversionary and malicious tactics, including the expansion of crises and the entanglement of other countries and actors,” the embassy said.

The embassy praised Kenya-Iran relations, describing them as friendly and based on “goodwill and mutual trust,” and urged that such ties not be undermined by what it called “baseless narratives.”
The Middle Eastern nation also reiterated its global stance against terrorism, stating that it has long been “at the forefront of the fight against terrorist groups such as Daesh (ISIS), Al-Qaeda, and their affiliates.”
Media houses in Kenya were further urged to avoid publishing unverified security reports that could cause alarm or harm diplomatic ties.
Iranian Ambassador to Kenya speaks
On Tuesday, the Iran Ambassador to Kenya Ali Gholampour condemned recent actions of the Israeli regime to attack his country leading to deaths of hundreds.
While addressing members of the press at the Iranian embassy in Nairobi, the ambassador termed the attacks as genocidal and crimes against humanity.
The ambassador further called on the international community to intervene and stop the attacks urging them to consider imposing sanctions against Israel.
“Since 13th June 2025, the regime has killed hundreds of civilians and injured more than a thousand. The Israeli genocidal regime and the US regime also targeted Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow peaceful nuclear facilities,” said Gholampour.
“It is very obvious that it has a very heavy negative impact not only on the trade between Iran and Kenya but also between Iran and other countries. All the precautionary and contingencies has been put in place to reduce the impact.”
The strongly worded statement came amid rising regional tensions in the Middle East, where Iran has been engaged in a war of words and proxy conflicts with Israel and its allies.
Trump “unhappy” with Israel and Iran
United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that he was “not happy with the two countries”.
In a quick interview just before boarding Air Force One as he departed the White House for the NATO summit in the Netherlands, the visibly angered President expressed frustration after the two countries failed to honor the ceasefire earlier announced.
“I’m not happy with Israel. When I say ‘OK, now you have 12 hours’, you don’t go out in the first hour and drop everything you have on them. So, I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either,” he said.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what f— they’re doing.”

Trump had earlier lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning against further military escalation in the ongoing conflict.
In a strongly worded message, he warned Israel against bombing Iran, saying it is “a major violation.”
“Israel, do not drop those bombs. If you do, it is a major violation. Bring your pilots home, now!” he said on Truth Social.
He later added, “Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly “Plane Wave” to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the ceasefire is in effect!”
Moments later, the President affirmed that “Iran will never rebuild their nuclear facilities!”
