The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption affecting sections of Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway as construction works continue along the busy transport corridor.
According to a public notice issued by KeNHA, a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8) and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors will be closed for 24 hours beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway of Mombasa Road (A8), and both carriageways of the Nairobi Expressway between Airtel Complex and General Motors,” read the KeNHA statement in part.
KeNHA Schedules Overnight-to-Overnight Closure
KeNHA, in its statement, confirmed that the closure will remain in effect until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The authority stated that the temporary shutdown is necessary to facilitate the installation of fabricated beams for the Airtel Footbridge across the Nairobi Expressway.

“This is to allow for installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Airtel Footbridge across the Expressway Carriageway,” KeNHA explained.
Motorists have been advised to follow the designated traffic management plan during the closure period and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site to manage traffic flow.
Alternative Routes
According to KeNHA’s traffic management plan, motorists approaching the closure area will be redirected via designated diversion routes around the Airtel interchange rather than proceeding through the affected sections of Mombasa Road and the Nairobi Expressway.
The traffic management map shows that vehicles will be guided through the interchange loops and connecting roads to bypass the construction zone. Traffic will then rejoin Mombasa Road beyond the affected section near General Motors.
KeNHA indicated that parts of the Mombasa-bound carriageway and sections of the Expressway around Airtel will be inaccessible during the works.

Drivers traveling through the corridor will therefore be required to follow directional signage and use the temporary diversion routes provided.
The authority further noted that the diversion measures are intended to maintain traffic flow while ensuring safety around the work site, where footbridge beams are being installed across the Nairobi Expressway.
Motorists have been advised to expect delays, especially during peak travel hours, and to comply with instructions issued by traffic marshals and police officers on site.
