The Kenya Railways Corporation has announced the suspension of train services after a heavy downpour on Sunday, January 26.
In an official statement, the train company noted that the Lukenya Train which out to leave the Nairobi station at 5:50 pm would not do so.
The daily commuter train was suspended beginning Monday, January 27, 2025.
“Kenya Railways wishes to inform members of the public that the Lukenya train which usually leaves Nairobi Central Station at 5:50 pm daily, will not run today, January 27, 2025,” stated Kenya Railways.

Kenya Railways Explains Reason for the Suspension
Further, Kenya Railways management noted that the suspension was brought about by blockage of the railway line.
Moreover, the statement added that the movement between Nairobi Terminus and Lukenya Station had been affected.
“This is due to a blockage on a section of the line in Athi River, which is hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi Terminus and Lukenya station.”
“Our technical teams are working to clear the blockage and restore the line as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and will issue an update once normal services resume,” the statement read in part.

Earlier Glitches at the Station
Earlier on January 24, the corporation announced a temporary disruption affecting the Madaraka Express booking platforms.
According to the statement. there was a technical issue which prevented customers from making bookings, although the matter was being resolved.
In the meantime, Kenya Railways advised its, customers to purchase tickets over the counter at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station.
“Our technical team is addressing the issue and we anticipate normalcy will be restored as soon as possible,” read part of the notice.
