Kenya Railways Announces SGR Booking Hitch

Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has issued a public notice informing passengers of a temporary disruption affecting the Madaraka Express booking platforms which has resulted to a technical issue making customers unable to book tickets online.

In a statement, Kenya Railways explained that their technical team is actively working to resolve the problem.

Our technical team is addressing the issue and we anticipate normalcy will be restored as soon as possible,” read part of the notice.

Kenya Railways Announce Disruption on Madaraka Express Booking Channels

In the meantime Kenya Railways advised its, customers to purchase tickets over the counter at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station.

Kenya Railways further apologized for the inconvenience caused to customers by the technical hitch.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the notice read.

The notice comes days after the corporation announced the return of the Nanyuki Train Service on Wednesday, January 22.

In a statement, Kenya Railways confirmed that the Nanyuki train had resumed normal operations after a week-long disruption caused by a blockage on a section of the line, which had been hindering the movement of trains between Nairobi and Nanyuki.

“We would like to inform the public that the Nanyuki Safari Train is now operating as per its usual schedule,” the statement read.

According to Kenya Railways, the train will leave Nairobi Central Station for Nanyuki every Friday at 9:00 a.m. and make the return trip from Nanyuki to Nairobi every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

KRC Announces Resumption of Normal Operations for Kisumu Safari Train

Elsewhere, KRC announced that the Kisumu Safari Train had reverted to the normal weekly schedule.

In a notice on Friday, January 17, 2025, the Corporation said that the train will depart from Nairobi Central Station for Kisumu every Friday at 5:30 PM and make its return trip from Kisumu to Nairobi every Sunday at 6:00 PM.

On Thursday October 31, the corporation announced delays for the Mombasa to Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

In a statement, the Authority indicated that the delay would occur for over one hour. 

“We wish to inform our customers that we are anticipating a 1 hour 40 minutes delay for the Mombasa to Nairobi afternoon Express train. The train will depart Mombasa Terminus at 16:40 hrs,” read the statement in part.
