Kindiki Recalls How Uhuru Chased Him Away without a Reason

Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki has narrated how former President Uhuru Kenyatta axed him from the Jubilee government during the second term.

Speaking on January 29, Kindiki said Uhuru sacked him without explaining his decision.

He acknowledged that there were political differences between him and Uhuru but emphasized that they were not enough reasons for his action.

“We had political differences with Uhuru during the last two years of his administration when he chased me away without giving me a reason. I even asked him to explain because it’s not so much about the job,” Kindiki said.

“I had political problems with him in the last two years, but I asked him to tell Kenyans and people of Tharaka Nithi what I had done to deserve it, but he didn’t answer.”

Kindiki said he was not interested in the job, but rather in his relationship with Uhuru and the reasons behind his dismissal.

He explained that he took time to focus on his personal life during the two years.

“I was not keen on the job. In fact, that break gave me time to reorganize my personal issues, which had gone wrong. I am a very passionate person, and I get committed to public service. I rectified those issues when Uhuru chased me away, and now I am on the right path,” he said.

Kindiki Defends Ruto

Kindiki also defended President William Ruto, stating that a good and transformative leader is not always popular.

He gave an example of how the late President Mwai Kibaki was unpopular two years after taking over the presidency.

“I’ve told you how Kibaki was very unpopular in 2005, two years after he was elected almost unanimously. But by the time he was leaving, many people were wishing he could get a third term,” he said.

He criticized his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, stating that Kibaki transformed Kenya and the rural areas in Mt. Kenya without speaking the Kikuyu language or publicizing his love for his tribesmen.

Gachagua’s Focus on Mt. Kenya Region

Kindiki explained that a government cannot succeed by focusing on one region at the expense of other parts of the country.

Similarly, he said Uhuru achieved major projects without focusing on the Mt. Kenya region or speaking his native language.

“I am wondering about these other people who say they love us—they have never convened a single county meeting, not even their home county, to discuss the development of these counties. What kind of love is this? Must you speak about it? Just do it, and we will see it,” Kindiki said.
