The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a clarification on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 timetable.

A total number of 965,501 candidates have been registered to sit for KCSE, according to KNEC.

KNEC in a statement on Friday, October 18, 2024, said that the KCSE timetable that has been doing rounds is inaccurate and not from the Council.

Further, the examinations council asked Kenyans to visit its website to get genuine and accurate timetables of all national examinations and assessments.

“This timetable doing the rounds is inaccurate and is not from the Kenya National Examinations Council. Please visit our website – http://knec.ac.ke – to get genuine and accurate timetables for 2024 KPSEA, KILEA, KCSE, teacher education and business and technical examinations,” the statement reads.

The 2024 KCSE exams whose rehearsals are to begin on October 18, 2024, have been scheduled to kick off on October 22 and end on November 22.

KCSE 2024

KNEC had earlier in the month announced that this year’s KCSE papers will have new specialized features as part of its innovations aimed at curbing cheating.

The new features were highlighted by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba who was speaking on October 4 during the launch of the 2024 national examinations and assessments season at Mitihani House in Nairobi.

While revealing the raft of changes effected to this year’s KCSE, CS Ogamba urged all the stakeholders involved in the entire ecosystem of administering examinations and assessments to pay attention to the innovations introduced by KNEC.

Ogamba highlighted that students who will sit for the national examinations will have their papers customized.

According to the CS, the candidates’ examination details names, index number and other personal details will be pre-printed on the papers.

“These innovations include the introduction of personalized question papers for the KCSE Examination candidates, whereby candidates’ names will be preprinted on the question paper,” said Ogamba.

The clarification by KNEC comes after the examinations council on October 16 released the official timetable for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

KPSEA is a crucial part of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and marks the completion of Grade 6 education for students nationwide.

The assessment was introduced as part of Kenya’s shift to CBC, which emphasizes skill acquisition and practical knowledge over traditional exam-based learning.

It evaluates learners’ competencies at the end of their primary education (Grade 6), replacing the previous system that ended with the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

According to KNEC, KPSEA exams for the 2024 academic year will start with a rehearsal on Friday, 25th October 2024, followed by the main examination, which will run from Monday, 28th October 2024 to Wednesday, 30th October 2024.

Mathematics and English papers will be done on Monday, Kiswahili, Integrated Science and Sign Language tests are on Tuesday, and Creative Arts & Social studies tests will mark the end of KPSEA on Wednesday.

KNEC also said that candidates are also not allowed to leave the assessment room before the end of the period allocated for the paper except with special permission from the Supervisor.

“The time allowed for each paper is indicated against the name of the paper and no extra time is to be allowed. Time for reading through questions is part of the time shown on the question paper except where special paper instructions indicate differently,” said KNEC in instructions to supervisors.

“Do not leave a sheet of paper you have written on or your answers in such a position that another candidate can read them. You should not give or obtain unfair assistance, or attempt to do so, whether by copying or in any other way, and your work should not show proof of such unfair assistance.”
