Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has announced that he has been arrested.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, January 20, MP Kibagendi claimed that he was “aggressively blocked by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers and arrested.”
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, being taken to DCI HQs.”
DCI had yet to release a formal statement regarding the MP’s arrest or the next steps in the investigation by the time of publication.
Kibagendi captured in viral assault incident
The MP was earlier being sought by police in connection with an assault incident captured on CCTV that went viral, showing him allegedly attacking a man in a restaurant.
The incident occurred on November 27, 2025, at a Java House outlet in Kisii town. Surveillance footage showed Kibagendi allegedly engaging in a heated verbal exchange with another patron, later identified as Enock Omariba Moriasi.

The confrontation reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, with the MP seen lunging at Moriasi, grabbing him by the throat, and delivering a forceful kick to his chest.
Footage also showed Kibagendi slapping another customer who tried to intervene. After several tense moments, the situation calmed briefly, with the two exchanging words before the lawmaker walked out.
Following the incident, Moriasi filed a formal complaint with authorities, accompanied by medical reports documenting injuries sustained during the scuffle.
For weeks after the incident, Kibagendi was considered a “person of interest” by police. Authorities issued several summons for him to record statements, but he reportedly avoided compliance.
Confrontation with CS Duale
In October 2025, the Kitutu South MP was removed from his position on the National Assembly’s Health Committee following a public confrontation with Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, an act deemed “unparliamentary” by the Assembly.
In a viral video, Kibagendi and CS Duale were seen shouting at each other, prompting Chair Seme MP James Nyikal to intervene. Kibagendi accused Duale of intimidation and a conflict of interest, while Duale claimed the MP had ties to a health facility that posed a conflict.

Viral footage showed the two lawmakers verbally confronting each other on the podium, criticizing national leadership, and at one point physically pushing each other until their security teams intervened.
