The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an update on the death of the Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were.
In a statement on May 6, 2025, DCI revealed the names of suspects who were involved in the tragic shooting of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo, who have been identified as Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, also known as Abdul Rashid, and Dennis Sewe Munyasi.

“Upon their arrest, the suspects led the investigators to Edwin Odhiambo’s house, where two pistols, a Retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz, were recovered. Additionally, nine rounds of 9 mm calibre ammunition were found. A bag and footwear matching the description of those worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were also recovered,” part of the statement read.
Further, DCI stated that all recovered items have been submitted for forensic examination.

DCI Heartfelt Condolences to Were Family
In addition, they extended their heartfelt condolences to the family, parliamentary colleagues, constituents, and friends during this difficult time.
DCI has urged the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation as investigative teams work diligently to ensure a thorough and transparent resolution to the case.

Other Suspects Arraigned
Additionally, four individuals, William Imoli Shighali, Juma Ali Haikai, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, and David Mihigo Kagame were arraigned at the JKIA Law Courts in connection with the killing of Kasipul MP.
The court granted police 30 more days to detain the suspects at Ruaraka, Muthaiga, Capitol Hill, and Kilimani police stations as investigations intensify.
According to detectives, Shighali, Haikai, and Kagame were arrested together in Roysambu, Nairobi.
Following his arrest, Shighali reportedly led officers to his residence in Umoja II estate, where they recovered Ksh620,000, which was believed to be proceeds from the crime, along with a spent cartridge.

Postmortem Report
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed that the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, died from excessive bleeding after sustaining five gunshot wounds.
Speaking during a postmortem examination conducted at the Lee Funeral Home on Saturday, Dr. Oduor revealed that the bullets struck vital organs, including the heart, and the late MPs’ chances of survival were slim.
“The bullet tracked through the heart and lungs, the liver and the aorta. The late could not have survived the injuries caused by the gunshot,” he added.
