The National Police Service has clarified reports that the government spent Ksh4.5 billion on Haiti mission.
In a statement, the police service dismissed the reports as false.

“The attention of the National Police Service (NPS) has been drawn to a report appearing in the Daily Nation on Friday, 14th March 2025 regarding the Funding of the MSS Mission to Haiti. The report alleged that the MSS Mission to Haiti has gobbled up Ksh4.5 billion.
NPS categorically denies this report and confirms that no clarification was sought from the Inspector General regarding this misleading and false report,” read the statement.

NPS Clarifies Haiti Mission Budget
The statement further clarified that the budget allocated to the mission in the 2024/25 financial year was Ksh2.1 billion, contrary to the Ksh4.5 billion quoted in the newspaper.
Additionally, the Polie stated that the Haiti Mission is not funded by the government but funded by the United Nations.

“The Government of Kenya is not financing the MSS Mission to Haiti. The Mission is 100% funded by the United Nations (UN) Trust Fund. The National Police Service has to date received reimbursements amounting to US Dollars 7,210,030.56 (KShs.933,546,317.60),” the statement added.

Further, the statement clarified that the UN Trust Fund disburses personnel allowances to the Government on monthly basis and upon receipt of the Funds, the Central Bank of Kenya credits the funds to the exchequer account.
“Therefore, NPS clarify that all expenses relating to the MSS Mission to Haiti are met by the UN Trust Fund,” the statement read.
Kenya Deploys More Police Officers to Haiti
The Police Service response comes after a local daily alleged Kenya’s peacekeeping mission in Haiti has cost taxpayers Ksh4.5 billion in nine months at a time the country is struggling to finance its own critical obligations resorting to deep budget cuts in key sectors like health and education.

Kenya’s mission in Haiti, known as the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission, began with the deployment of its first contingent of police officers on the month of June 2024.
This initial deployment consisted of 200 Kenyan police officers. Since then, additional deployments have been made. On January 18, 2025, Kenya sent 217 more police officers to Haiti, bringing the total number of Kenyan personnel deployed to over 600 to date.
