Principal Secretary, Basic Education
During a reshuffle by President William Ruto in March 2025, Bitok was reassigned to the State Department for Basic Education.
In this role, he faced several challenges, including the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and a wave of student unrest in secondary schools, with several schools closing indefinitely.
Before being moved from this role, Bitok encouraged dialogue with students and alternative approaches to exams rather than using force to reduce the number of school unrests.
Principal Secretary, Tourism
Bitok was reassigned by President William Ruto to the State Department for Tourism on June 9, 2026, amid the unrest in schools.
This is his third major docket in under two years.
