Keith Ikinu Rigathi is the second son of the former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has built his success away from the political influence of his father.

Ikinu gained national attention after becoming a performer during the Kenya Secondary Certificate of Education (KSCE) examination in 2010, scoring an A plain grade of  86.92 points.

During the 2010 KCSE examination, Keith Ikinu ranked 17th nationwide, having taken his final examination at Alliance High School.

Early Life and Educational Background

Ikinu Rigathi was born and raised in Nyeri, with details of his early education not publicly disclosed.

In his KCSE, Keith emerged as one of the top performers, ranking among the top 13 male performers nationally.

For his secondary education, Keith attended the Alliance High School and later joined the University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus School of Medicine.

At the University, Keith pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and graduated in December 2019.

At his graduation, his father, Rigathi Gachagua, celebrated the achievement, noting that Keith had finally met his academic goal after six years of studying.

“After 30 years, I went back to the University at the graduation square this morning to witness the graduation of my lastborn son, Keith Ikinu Rigathi, who was awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery. My wife and I were overwhelmed with excitement, and indeed, we are very proud parents. We thank God for His goodness in seeing Keith through a very difficult course that took him six years.” Rigathi Gachagua stated during Keith’s graduation.

Keith Ikinu’s Family

Keith is the son of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Pastor Dorcas Wanjiku Rigathi, who is an ordained minister.

Dorcas Rigathi runs faith-based initiatives focusing on rehabilitation, widows, and youth empowerment, and, according to her husband, Gachagua, she is the spiritual pillar of the family.

Keith also has an elder brother, Kevin Gachagua, who is a professional software engineer and collaborates with Keith to run the family business.

Careers and Achievements

As a medical doctor, Keith worked briefly at the Mbagathi District Hospital in Nairobi.

Later, in 2021, Keith shifted his focus to the management of the family business with his brother Kevin Gachagua.

In the family business management, Keith was involved in the operations of hotels, including the Treetops Hotel and Outspan Hotels in Nyeri.

At the Treetops Lodge, Keith Ikinu is the current managing director of the hotel in 2026.

Despite the two sons of Gachagua maintaining a low political profile in 2024, Gachagua explained that both his sons wanted him to support former president Uhuru Kenyatta during the 2022 general elections.

“We had a lot of conflicts with the government, and my sons saw that I was going to be mistreated. They called a meeting. The four of us, together with Pastor Dorcas, met and they asked me to change my political allegiance, stating it was going to destroy the family,” Gachagua stated during an address in Bomet.

According to Gachagua, his sons and wife cited that his political alliance with President Ruto would destroy the family.
