In another incident on March 17, four men in blue police uniforms and reflector jackets intercepted a man who had withdrawn KSh4.2 million from Equity Bank’s Utawala branch near Gateway Mall. Two of the suspects were reportedly armed.
The gang allegedly accused the man of trafficking narcotic drugs, handcuffed him and forced him into their vehicle before blindfolding him and abandoning him in Karen. The KSh4.2 million was stolen.
A third incident involved a woman carrying KSh1.4 million entrusted to her by her employer. She was travelling on a motorcycle towards Sayan Business Park when four men in a grey Mazda CX-5 intercepted her at the Cabanas Interchange.
The suspects allegedly claimed to be police officers and forced the woman and the motorcycle rider into their vehicle. The two were reportedly assaulted and blindfolded before the gang stole the cash and their mobile phones, later abandoning them near a hospital in Utawala.
Detectives investigating the three incidents arrested three suspects and recovered a suspected getaway vehicle, a Mazda CX-5, alongside reflector jackets and a military-style jungle hat believed to have been used during the robberies.
