The Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) through its Interim party leader Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o has distanced itself from recent remarks made by Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed and Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary (CS), Hassan Joho.
In a statement, the Kisumu Governor said that the ODM party does not champion the interests of another party.
“Our mission has always been to serve the Kenyan people by championing justice, equity, and sustainable development. As ODM members, we are resolute in up upholding the values of democracy, accountability, and transparency in our quest to create a better Kenya for all.
Let there be no misunderstanding: ODM does not play second fiddle or trumpet the interests of any other political party. We remain a formidable force in shaping Kenya’s political landscape, firmly rooted in our principles and ideology,” Nyong’o said.

However, the ODM interim leader emphasized that political partnerships should not be mistaken for acts of subservience but rather are strategic moves aimed at achieving their main goal which is capturing political power to transform the lives of Kenyans.
Nyong’o was referring to the recent party alliance with President William Ruto’s government, which led to the formation of the Broad-Based Government.
“As a political entity, we understand the value of strategic partnerships. From time to time, we may choose to form alliances and coalitions with other parties or groups that align with our objectives and vision for Kenya.
These partnerships are not acts of subservience but deliberate efforts to strengthen our resolve in achieving our primary goal of capturing political power to transform the lives of Kenyans,” Nyong’o emphasized.

While speaking in Taita Taveta, where he accompanied the President Junet said that the government is elected by the people to bring development.
However, when the government attempts to champion development, some individuals hinder its efforts. He therefore called for the scrap of public participation.

Junet also expressed how ODM is aligning with the Kenya Kwanza government, saying, “Mambo ya Affordable Housing na mengi yalikuwa katika manifesto yetu, na sisi kama upinzani tumesema kama mambo ilikuwa katika manifesto yetu, hakuna kitu ya kupinga,” loosely translated to mean:
“Issues like Affordable Housing and many others were part of our manifesto, and as the opposition, we have said that if these matters were in our manifesto, there is nothing to oppose.“
On his part, Mining CS, Joho warned social media users against criticizing President Ruto or will face consequences.

He further called out Kenyans who are not supporting Azimio Leader Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union (AU) chairmanship position. He said that such acts were a show of disrespect which is uncalled for.
“Like Junet Said, I am an expert. Why would I sit online with a Kenyan who doesn’t have a future and knows nothing who is saying that Raila Odinga must fall? The person also has the confidence to speak about the African Union (AU).
“How unpatriotic can you be that even when one of you has an opportunity to lead you go against them? We will come for you,” Joho vowed.
