President William Ruto has appointed a new Head of the Presidential Communication Service (PCS).
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed in a statement on Wednesday, October 9 announced that President Ruto has appointed Munyori Buku as the new PCS head.
Mohamed said that Buku brings over 26 years of senior-level experience in strategic communication within both the public and private sectors.
“President William Ruto has appointed Munyori Buku as the new Head of the Presidential Communication Service. Mr. Buku brings over 26 years of senior-level experience in strategic communication within both the public and private sectors,” the statement reads.
Prior to this appointment, Munyori served as the Secretary for Public Communication at the State House.

Other notable roles he has held include Senior Director of Public Communication at State House, Director of Communication in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Finance, and Editorial Manager at the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board.

In the private sector, Buku held key editorial positions, including Managing Editor at the Standard Group and Sub-Editor at the Nation Media Group, among other senior roles.
His career began in education, where he worked as a teacher in several high schools across Kenya before transitioning to media and communications.
Munyori holds a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Kenyatta University.
He shall replace former PCS Director David Mugonyi who left the office having been appointed as the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
Mugonyi assumed the CA role in January 2024 after he was appointed on December 20, 2023, for a term of four years to become the 7th Director General since the establishment of the Authority in 1999.

The change was made in an Executive Order No.1 of 2023 issued by the Head of State reassigning functions and institutions among Ministries and State Departments.
Meanwhile, Buku’s appointment as the new PCS head comes at a time when communication from the highest office in Kenya is under intense scrutiny.
The new head of PCS will be expected to play a vital role in crafting clear and effective messaging that will resonate with the public and the international community.
