Police have claimed that missing youth, Brian Odhiambo who was allegedly abducted by Kenya Wild Service Officers escaped from custody.
Nakuru East DCIO and officer-in-charge KWS say they are unable to produce him in court as ordered.
Odhiambo was supposed to be produced in court before the Nakuru High Court on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 9:00 am. However, this has failed to materialize.
A writ of habeas corpus was issued on January 24, 2025 by Justice Julius Nang’ea compelling Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nakuru East Sub County and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Officer in Charge of Lake Nakuru National Park to produce Brian in court either dead or alive.

According to activist and CEO of Vocal Africa, Hussein Khalid, KWS showed up LATE IN Court through their representative in court, and issued affidavits to the complainants. This led the court to suspend the session for one day, until Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Hussein further added that their only hope is that Brian will be produced in court on Thursday, either alive or, alternatively, with his body presented.

The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) representative in Nakuru, David Kuria, who was also present in court, stated that he hopes the DCI and KWS will provide satisfactory responses on Thursday regarding Brian’s disappearance so that Brian’s family can get justice for their kin.
According to Kuria, a parade of KWS officers was conducted on Monday, January 27, to identify officers suspected of abducting Brian, but it did not yield any results. He described the exercise as a formality.

Protests have erupted in the Lake Nakuru National Park region since Brian went missing, with residents demanding his release.
On Thursday, January 23, the protests turned violent as demonstrators set fire a section of the park.

Local leaders, residents, and human rights organizations have expressed their concerns over Brian’s disappearance, calling for accountability from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers.
Brian was reportedly last seen on Saturday, January 18, 2025, after he was allegedly taken by officers from the KWS. His family has been searching for him since his disappearance, visiting hospitals and morgues in Nakuru without success.
