Detectives have arrested a police officer stationed at a Lang’ata police station in connection with the murder of a Nairobi taxi driver.
In a statement on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations noted that the officer named Kennedy Murimi was one of the suspects roped in the death of Evans Bikundo Moracha, whose body was recovered at River Sagana.
According to DCI, Moracha’s body was identified at the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital Mortuary and thereafter prompted investigations.
Acting on intelligence from members of the public, detectives probing the driver’s death arrested a suspect named Collins Muthike in Nyeri County.

Upon subsequent interrogations Muthike led the detectives to Murimi who was at the time in Ongata Rongai.
The detectives ran a background search of the suspect’s names and consequently established that he was a police officer based at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata.
Further, the detectives established that Murimi had been interdicted for deserting service.
Additionally, DCI explained that the suspect was in the rank of a police constable and had been tasked with the role of a driver.
Upon searching his house, the detectives recovered mobile phone said to belong to the slain driver and a stun torch which the suspect confessed to have used to light their way to River Sagana where they disposed of the body.

The two were later detained separately at Capital Hill and Kilimani police stations pending further interrogations.
Driver’s wife was the mastermind- police
According to DCI, forensic-led intelligence pointed to a well-choreographed murder plot.
DCI explained that further investigations established that the driver did not just disappear while on his normal routine but was picked from his house on the night of October 11.
As per the report, the slain driver’s wife who was initially arrested for interrogation was also present when the killers picked her husband.
The detectives probing Moracha’s death are convinced that the wife was the mastermind of her husband’s death.
Toyota Vitz car recovered
The Toyota Vitz car used by Moracha in his business, DCI added, was stealthily driven back to the wife’s neighborhood and abandoned a few days after his disappearance.
Consequently, the investigations agency has deployed cyber-crime detectives to probe the wife’s phone calls and conversations in attempts to link her to the rest of the suspects.

“Cyber-crime detectives whose services have been sought linked Teresa to the two suspects, after numerous conversations including negotiations for unclarified payments among the three were retrieved,” the statement read in part.
“The communication dated back before Moracha’s abduction, during and after the recovery of the body.”
The now apparent case of homicide adds to a long list of mysterious murders reported in Nairobi.
One month earlier, news about a gruesome murder of Eric Maigo, a former Nairobi Hospital staffer, shocked the country after detectives reported that he was stabbed multiple times.
