The government will soon roll out the Kenyan Digital Nomad Visa to allow tourists to temporarily explore the country according to President William Ruto.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 2, the president announced the introduction of the digital nomad work permit will allow individuals working remotely to live and work in Kenya.
According to Ruto, the government is expanding its cyber optic footprint, to allow tourists to remain connected to the internet and work, even as they explore different parts of the country.
“I am pleased to announce yet another milestone. The digital nomad work permit, specifically designed to welcome global digital professionals,
“Allowing them to live and work in Kenya while enjoying the country’s natural beauty and high-quality lifestyle where you and your family can experience the magical Kenya while serving clients from anywhere in the world on your digital platform,” he added.

Ruto Announces Introduction of Travel Authorization
At the same time, the head of state announced the introduction of the electronic travel authorization to give tourists permission to explore the country for 12 hours.
Therefore, individuals with connecting flights do not have to wait at the terminals. Instead, they will be able to explore various cities and attraction sites.
“We are introducing a transit authorization. Again, another milestone to enable transit visitors to step out of the airport and explore the beauty of their home away from home.
“It will now be possible for travelers who have 12 hours instead of spending it at the airport, they can step out and enjoy a meal in the city, go to the national park and see wildlife, or visit our national museum and travel back.
“That visa engagement is being rolled out. Travellers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will now be able to enjoy the country instead of spending them at the terminals,” said Ruto.

Ruto Makes Kenya a Visa Free Country
Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, 2023, Ruto announced the government’s decision to waive visa requirement for visitors coming to Kenya, which took effect in January 2024.
While making the move, Ruto cited various archaeological discoveries that in the past stated that Kenya was the cradle of humankind to buttress the decision to open borders to the world.
The President also referred to the Tobong’u Lore Festival which means “welcome home” to affirm the government’s resolve to open up Kenya for the world to explore.
“It shall be no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the world to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come from Kenya,” announced Ruto.
