President William Ruto has appointed the son of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, as a Special Advisor in the Office of the President.
In a statement on April 22, Jaoko thanked President Ruto for allowing him to serve Kenyans as Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods
“I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods. Thank you, Your Excellency,” Jaoko said.
Jaoko also thanked his uncle, Raila Odinga, for the honour. He said Raila has created a good environment for Kenyans to take part in building the nation.
“Thanks also, go to the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga, for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment for Kenyans from all walks of life to work together for our beloved country, Kenya, in nation building. Thank you, Sir. God bless Kenya,” he said.
Jaoko Oburu Odinga Education & Career
Jaoko is businessman with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Saint Mary’s University in Canada.
He is a former Siaya County Executive Committee member for Roads and Public Works under former Governor Cornel Rasanga.
He has also served as Investments and Resource Mobilization Adviser for Siaya County between 2013 and 2022.
Jaoko was the chairperson of the Global Chair of Friends of Baba Africa (FOBA), a lobby group that was campaigning for Rail to become the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson.

Raila’s Allies in Govt
The broad-based government has seen several Raila allies join government in various positions.
The first group consisted of John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, Ali Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya and Beatrice Askul Moe who are currently as Cabinet Secretaries.
In March 2025, Ruto appointed more Raila allies to state jobs.
Former ODM National Election Board chairperson Judith Pareno was appointed as Principal Secretary (PS) for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs State Department.

Caroline Karugu, former Nyeri deputy governor and a member of Raila’s 2022 presidential campaign was appointed to lead the State Department for East African Community (EAC) affairs within the Ministry of East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development.
ODM’s youth leader Fikirini Jacobs was appointed as PS for State Department for Youth Affairs.
Ruto appointed Ahmed Abdisalan as PS National Government Co-ordination.
