Students and parents at Ramba Boys High School in Asembo, Siaya County, are mourning the death of two students who died after falling into a septic tank at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
According to reports, the two were form four students, but their identities have been revealed.

Reports also indicate that the students were having supper when the structure collapsed trapping four of them inside
However, two were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police and Red Cross officials have since recovered the bodies of the victims.
Ramba Boys students had just come back from an AIDS awareness rally before the incident.

Authorities and school officials have not given an official statement or established the cause of the collapse.
Protests at Ramba Boys
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo confirmed the incident on his social media accounts.
In a statement on X, Amollo said he had been informed of the death of the two students.
He sent condolences to their families and mentioned that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the incident.
“Another tragedy! Saddened to learn two young boys at Ramba Boys High School have lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed! May their young souls know peace, even as we continue investigating the circumstances,” Amollo said.
In response to the tragedy, other students have staged a protest within the school.
Parents have faulted the school administration for lack of communication after the accident.

Students Die in Road Accident
This comes after three students from Dr Aggrey Boys’ High School in Wundanyi constituency, Taita Taveta County were killed after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident.
The three were among the six people who died in the accident which occurred in the Josa area on the Wundanyi-Mwatate road.
Police said the minibus the students were travelling in suffered a brake failure and crashed at the dangerous Josa bend.
The students were on their way home after a second fire incident at their school, prompting the administration to shut down the institution and send all students home.

Hillside Endarasha Academy Fire
On September 5, a fire destroyed a dormitory at Hillside Endarasha Academy, killing 21 students.
The fire completely destroyed the boys’ dormitory, leaving behind shattered windows and burnt doors.
The incident prompted the Education CS Julius Ogamba to order the immediate inspection of all schools.
Ogamba said the Ministry will inspect all public and private basic learning institutions stating that a few institutions have flouted the guidelines provided in the Safety Standards Manual for Schools in Kenya.
