Tahidi High actor and thespian Xavier Jerry Nato, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness.
Nato suffered a stroke that led to kidney failure and his family made a financial appeal for his Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment.
The news for his demise was confirmed by the Kenya Theatre Awards who described Nato as a person who left a mark on Kenya’s theatre scene over the last two decades, inspiring and mentoring many young people in theatre.
“We are sad to announce the demise of one of Kenya’s prolific thespians, Xavier Jerry Nato, after a long illness bravely borne,” read the statement in part.
“He is best remembered for his award-winning productions in the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival, winning the KTA’s Inaugural Best Playwright Award in 2022, and being a co-founder of Millaz Productions, all of which have left a mark on Kenya’s theatre scene over the last two decades, inspiring and mentoring many young people in theatre.”
Who was Xavier Nato
Xavier Nato was widely known for his role in the popular TV series Salem, Tahidi High and Wash and Set.
Nato’s talent as a playwright earned him recognition, and he was honoured with the esteemed Best Playwright Award in 2022.
Xavier Jerry Nato gained widespread recognition for his role as Jamo in the NTV drama series Wash Wash, which aired between 2008 and 2010.

Tributes have poured in from friends, colleagues, and fans who remember Nato for his talent, warmth, and unwavering passion for the arts.
Former Kakamega Senator, Cleophas Malala mourned, “The grim reaper’s hand has robbed me of a brother. A sad day it is. Rest easy, buddy. Fly with the angels, Xavier Jerry Nato. One day, Death too shall die.”
“I have lost a brother, confidant, and friend. If I were to write a book about my life, Xavier would take half of the book. My feelings are conflicted,” Nato’s close friend Job Masika wrote.
“I can’t even describe how I’m feeling. It’s a mixture of shock, devastation, and pain bundled in my heart.”
Karagu Jnr wrote, “Waking up to the sad news that Xavier Jerry Nato is no more is devastating. I knew Jerry as a cool man and a vibrant thespian who shaped many of us with his artistic prowess, both on and off the stage.
“His captivating scripts and productions will be missed by all who knew his talent. My condolences to the family and friends of Xavier.”

On his part, comedian Valmes reflected on Nato’s influence in a moving tribute:
“A Star Has Fallen. Today, the world is dimmer, for we have lost a giant. Xavier Jerry Nato was not just an artist; he was a voice, a force, and a light that touched countless souls. His artistry, his passion, and his fight for a better world remain etched in our hearts.”
Abu Thwalib expressed grief, reflecting on Nato’s professional journey.
