Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired a warning shot at opposition leaders eyeing deals with President William Ruto, declaring that Kenyans will not forgive those who betray the struggle for change.
While addressing Kenyans living in Baltimore on Sunday, Gachagua sent a warning message to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and others in the opposition coalition, saying they must remain firm or face the wrath of the public.
“Anybody who will be bribed by Ruto to leave our team will be hanged by Kenyans,” Gachagua said bluntly, drawing loud cheers from the crowd. “This is not the time to sell out. We are fighting for the soul of this country, and we need unity, not betrayal.”
Gachagua to offer Diaspora Nomination Slots
Gachagua pledged to include members of the diaspora community in his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leadership, announcing plans to allocate nomination slots in both national and county legislatures after the 2027 general elections.

He said the DCP will push for diaspora representation in the Senate and the National Assembly, stating the community’s potential to contribute to governance with global perspectives and best practices.
“I want you people to come back home and help us,” Gachagua told the audience. “I would like to have one nominated senator in the Senate from the DCP party so that you can enrich our thinking and share with us best practices seen elsewhere.”
The former deputy president, who is positioning his newly formed party as a national force, added that nomination slots are determined by party strength across counties.
MCAs from Diaspora
He said DCP expects to gain enough support in over 25 counties, allowing room for strategic nominations.

Gachagua also proposed a bold plan to include diaspora voices at the grassroots level.
He vowed to advocate for specially elected Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the diaspora in each of the counties where DCP is influential.
“In all counties where we will be strong — over 25 — it is my proposal to have in each a specially elected MCA from the diaspora to assist us in overseeing the counties and enhancing legislation,” he said.
The remarks were part of Gachagua’s broader campaign to engage Kenyans abroad as political stakeholders, as he seeks to re-enter the national stage ahead of the 2027 elections under the DCP banner.
