The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced new Monetary Policy Committee Members.
In a statement, CBK Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge, who is also the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), welcomed the new MPC members following their appointment on November 22, 2024.
“The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) welcomes Ms. Isis Nyong’o, Dr. Kemboi Kipruto, Dr. Freshia Mugo, and Mr. Jared Osoro, as members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), following their appointment on November 22, 2024,” the statement read.
Isis Nyong’o, who is among the new committee members holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University in the USA, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in human biology from the same university.
Details of CBK appointees
She has 12 years’ experience as a non-executive director, with advisory experience that includes a mix of public, private, academic, and non-profit boards.
Nyong’o currently serves as a member of the boards of the Nairobi Securities Exchange and LGT Venture Philanthropy.
She has previously served on various boards including Equity Bank Group. Nyong’o has also served in advisory roles for several boards including the Africa Research Centre for the Harvard Business School.
She has an extensive understanding of the strategic considerations associated with highly regulated industries, and extensive operational experience in corporate roles.
Through her partnership role at Google, Ms. Nyong’o was instrumental in building the foundation of digital economy in Africa.
Profile of Dr. Kemboi Kipruto
Dr. Kemboi Kipruto, on his part, holds a PhD in Economics from Moi University, a master’s degree in economics from Kenyatta University, and a Bachelor of Economics and Statistics degree from Kenyatta University.
He is also a Certified Investment and Financial Analyst (CIFA) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Dr. Kipruto is currently an Academic Trainer for Collaborative and Specialized Programs at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration.

He is also the Coordinator of Economic Programs at Moi University’s School of Business and Economics at the Nairobi Campus and serves as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the university.
He has published extensively in refereed journals and possesses significant experience in research, policy analysis, investment methodologies, as well as statistical and data analytics. Dr. Kipruto is a self-motivated scholar with a proven track record in developing, coordinating, analyzing, and implementing programs.
Profile of Dr. Freshia Mugo
Dr. Freshia Mugo earned her PhD in International Finance from Sogang University in South Korea. She also holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Kenyatta University.

Dr. Mugo is currently a Senior Lecturer in Finance and the Academic Director for PhD programs at Strathmore University.
She is an expert in international finance with extensive experience in financial markets, academic research, regulatory affairs, training, and risk analysis and management.

Over the past 14 years, Dr. Mugo has served on various boards, including a tenure as Acting Chair of the Kenya Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board (AMLAB), where she collaborated closely with the National Treasury and the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
Additionally, she has acted as Chair of both the Finance and Planning Committee and the Audit, Governance, and Risk Committee at the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).
Notably, she led the establishment of Kenya’s derivatives market and served as the lead finance expert for a World Bank and Government of Kenya-funded project focused on developing urban resilience strategies.
Dr. Mugo also has extensive experience in training and consulting in financial management.
Profile of Jared Osoro
Another appointee who is Jared Osoro, an economist specializing in international macroeconomics, financial and monetary economics, econometrics, and development economics.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, Master of Science in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe, and Advanced Econometric Studies as applied to Development from the University of Bradford.
Osoro has published widely, particularly journal articles, working papers, book chapters, and essays.
Jared has undertaken research in, among others, development financing, regional integration of financial systems, and macroeconomic and financial sector regulatory policies.
He has worked at the East African Development Bank and the Kenya Bankers Association as Director of Research.
Osoro is currently leading a special Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Africa technical advisory program on two-way interaction of central bank policies and market players on the back of the tripartite relationship between financial openness, market development and economic growth.
