Ecobank Kenya has appointed veteran business leader and trailblazer Flora Mutahi as a Non-Executive Director to its Board.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 23, Ecobank said Mutahi’s appointment reflects its commitment to strong corporate governance, diversity of thought and strategic leadership as the bank seeks to deepen its impact and pursue sustainable growth.
“The Board, Management and staff of Ecobank Kenya warmly welcome Flora and look forward to benefiting from her extensive experience, leadership and strategic counsel,” the bank said.
Ecobank Kenya Appoints Flora Mutahi
A Forbes 50 Over 50 honouree, Flora Mutahi has more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing, enterprise development, corporate governance and private sector leadership across Africa.
She previously made history as the first female chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
Mutahi served as vice chairperson from July 2014 to July 2016 before becoming chairperson from July 2016 to July 2018.
While at KAM, she founded the Women in Manufacturing initiative to promote the growth and advancement of women in industry.
Mutahi later became the first female chairperson of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), where she played a key role in strengthening public-private sector engagement and advancing Kenya’s business competitiveness agenda.
During her tenure as KEPSA chairperson from April 2018 to June 2024, she spearheaded the launch of Kenya’s first Gender Mainstreaming Policy for the private sector.
Mutahi also received a Head of State Commendation (HSC) award for her contributions to business and industry.
Beyond her corporate leadership roles, she is a respected author, speaker and mentor to entrepreneurs across Africa and is widely recognized for championing leadership development and sustainable business growth.

Mutahi’s Extensive Leadership Career
Mutahi brings to Ecobank Kenya more than three decades of experience in business leadership, manufacturing, corporate governance and enterprise development.
She is the founder and chief executive officer of Melvin Marsh International, a position she has held since May 1995, overseeing the growth of one of Kenya’s leading tea brands, Melvins Tea.
In the real estate sector, she has served as a director at Azizi Realtors since January 2011, focusing on commercial and residential property sales, lettings, investment advisory and valuations.
Mutahi has also served as a non-executive board member at Old Mutual since April 2023.
Between May 2017 and June 2024, she served as a director at SBM Bank Kenya, contributing to the bank’s strategic direction and governance.

On the global stage, Mutahi was a board member of the United Nations Global Compact from June 2018 to May 2024, where she focused on board governance and sustainability issues.
She also served as chairperson of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority from June 2018 to July 2021, championing efforts to promote a counterfeit-free Kenya.
From November 2016 to October 2018, she was vice chairperson of the COMESA Business Council, where she helped drive regional trade policy.
Mutahi further served as a director at the Export Promotion Council Kenya from October 2015 to September 2018.
She also served as a director at Jubilee Insurance from June 2014 to July 2018, further cementing her reputation as one of Kenya’s most influential business leaders.
Education
On the academic front, Mutahi holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town, which she obtained between 2008 and 2010.
She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Accounting and Finance from the United States International University.
