Almost a month after President William Ruto appointed Julius Ogamba as the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), KenGen has announced the appointment of Alfred Agoi as his replacement as the Chairman of the Board.
In a notice on September 6, the board of directors announced the appointment of Alfred Agoi Masadia as the Non-Executive Director of the Company with effect August 8.
“The Board of Directors of KenGen is pleased to announce the appointment of Hon. Alfred Agoi Masadia as a Non-Executive Director of the Company,” the statement read.
Additionally, the Board of Directors confirmed the resignation of Ogamba from his position as director of the company.
“Following the appointment of CS. Julius Migos Ogamba as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education by H.E. The President of the Republic of Kenya, the Board of Directors of KenGen hereby informs its esteemed shareholders and stakeholders that CS. Julius Migos Ogamba relinquished his position as the Chairman of the Board and resigned as a director of the company with effect from 8th August 2024,” Read the statement.
KenGen Appoints Alfred Agoi
Agoi joins the Board in execution of its oversight mandate of guiding KenGen as the leading geothermal producer in Africa to propel the economic growth of the country and region through provision of reliable electric energy.
The former lawmaker is a seasoned and recognized leader, a self-driven professional with over 22 years of experience in business and strategic management and leadership.
Notably, Agoi has previously worked as the Marketing Director at Ideal Office Products Limited and the Chief Executive Officer at Kingsway Business Systems Limited.
With his wealth of experience as a strategic leader and a public policy, governance administration practitioner, the Company will benefit greatly from his expertise.
“We reassure our shareholders and stakeholders that the Board is committed to provide effective oversight for the sustainability of the business and increased shareholder value.”
Education and Politics
Agoi was born in 1965, holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics, Government) and master’s in business administration (Strategic Management) both from the University of Nairobi.
Likewise, he is the immediate Member of Parliament for Sabatia Constituency which he served for two terms from 2013 till 2022.
During his tenure in Parliament, Agoi was a member of several Parliamentary Committees including the Budget Appropriations Committee, Health Committee, Regional Integration Committee and the Special Funds Accounts Committee.
