Jambojet has launched weekly flights between Kenyan coastal city Mombasa and Zanzibar Island.
Jambojet on Monday July 1, 2024, commissioned its inaugural flight between the two destinations, with the airline targeting tourists flying into the island.
According to the airline’s CEO Karanja Ndegwa, the four weekly flights will be departing Mombasa to Zanzibar on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The CEO during the airline’s inaugural flight from the Moi International Airport (MIA) to Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA) revealed that charges for the new route will start at Ksh24,420.

Ndegwa lauded the airline’s efforts to maintain its status as one of Kenya’s leading low-cost airliners while aiming to make air travel more accessible.

“Our new route starts at 24,420 Kenyan shillings, (495,000 Tanzanian shillings) for a round trip. As a leader in low-cost aviation, we pride ourselves on our competitive fares and extensive network, enabling more people to travel across East Africa. This route reflects our goal of making air travel accessible to everyone,” said Ndegwa.
Zanzibar Allows Jambojet Flights
The milestone comes months after Zanzibar allowed the low-cost Kenyan carrier to start direct flights between Mombasa and the island.
Back then, Jambojet CEO Ndegwa had revealed that fares would be starting from $113 (Ksh17,086) inclusive of taxes, for a one-way ticket.

The CEO further revealed that the milestone would mark a major achievement for the airline, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in April.
How to Book
According to the Jambojet CEO, the route will be served by a De Havilland Dash 8 400 aircraft capable of carrying 78 to 82 passengers.
To book a flight, visit Jambojet website>Destinations then select Zanzibar. The direct link to the Zanzibar destination page is Jambojet Zanzibar.
Select the type of flight that is one way/round trip/multi city, enter other details such as day of travel, city from, number of passengers, among others then continue to process payments.
Some of the mandatory requirements before embarking on the journey include a Valid Passport and a valid yellow-fever certificate.
The subsidiary notes that the route also offers connections to Nairobi, Dubai, Frankfurt, Milan, and other destinations.
Inaugural flight
Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who was present during the inaugural flight lauded the move saying that it will reduce current time travel and cost.
“I was honored to inaugurate the first of these flights today morning. It is expected that this route will significantly reduce current travel time and cost to passengers seeking to enjoy the East African experience, promoting tourism and business between Kenya and Tanzania. The new route aligns with the airline’s growth strategy and enhances affordable and convenient connectivity within East Africa.”
Jambojet has served over 7.5 million passengers since it was started in 2014, accounting for more than 54 percent of the domestic air travel market share in Kenya.
The airline also flies to Nairobi, Lamu, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Diani, and Goma in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
