The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) have announced public auctions of assorted items and secondhand vehicles across several locations countrywide.
In a public notice on April 22, KALRO invited members of public to take part in the auction of boarded assets.
The auction shall be conducted by M/s Garam Investments Auctioneers and M/s Igare Auctioneers on the date/day, time and place indicated by the organization’s Director General in a public notice.
According to the notice, the items range from vehicles, laboratory equipment office equipment, scrap material, old tyres, used furniture, batteries, among others.
Prospective bidders are encouraged to inspect the items at designated locations during working hours (8:00 am to 4:00 pm) by prior arrangement with the respective institute or centre directors.
Bidding for certain items will take place at alternate sites from where the items are located.
KALRO auction
The auctions will be held across various research centres between May 5 and May 14, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am.
The first auction will take place at the organization’s Headquarters in Loresho on May 5, followed by events at the Veterinary Research Institute in Muguga and the Food Crops Research Institute in Kabete on May 6.

On May 7, the auction moves to the Industrial Crop Research Centre in Mwea.
The Food Crops Research Centre in Njoro will host the auction on May 8, while the Food Crops Centre in Embu will be the venue on May 9.
The Horticultural Research Centre in Kibos will conduct its auction on May 10.
On May 12, auctions will be held at the Agricultural Mechanization Institute in Katumani.
The following day, May 13, events will be hosted at both the Industrial Crops Research Institute in Kakamega and the Arid and Range Lands Research Institute in Kiboko.
The final auction will be held on May 14 at the Horticultural Research Centre in Matuga.
Other details of the auction
Items from KALRO Beef Research Institute in Lanet and Industrial Crop Centre in Molo will be viewed on-site but bidding for these will take place at Food Crops Research Centre, Njoro.
Similarly, items from KALRO Beef Research Centre in Mariakani will be viewed at their location but auctioned at Industrial Crop Research Institute, Mtwapa.
Additionally, a Nissan D/Cabin moto vehicle belonging to KALRO Mtwapa will be viewed at KALRO BIORI in Nairobi but auctioned at Mtwapa.
Another vehicle, a Toyota Prado under KALRO GERRI, will be viewed at KALRO BIORI in Muguga but auctioned at VSRI Muguga, Nairobi.
A refundable bidding fee of 10% of the reserve price per lot is required for participation.
Upon payment, bidders will receive a receipt which must be presented during registration—at least one hour before the auction.
Successful bidders must pay 25% of the total price at the fall of the hammer via eCitizen Paybill, and the remaining balance within 14 days.
A storage fee of Ksh500 per day applies beyond the collection period, and uncollected items after 30 days will be forfeited.

KeNHA auction
At the same time, KeNHA invited interested bidders to participate in public auction of items across several of its regional offices, weighbridges, and centres.

KeNHA in a public notice announced the disposal of obsolete, surplus, and unserviceable items, listing the specific dates, venues, and times for the auction.
The public auction will be conducted across various KeNHA regional offices, weighbridges, and centres throughout the country between May 7 and May 16, 2025.
The auction will kick off on May 7, 2025, at the Corridor A Office in Athi River, followed by subsequent sales at key weighbridges including Isinya, Juja, and Corridor C on May 8.
On May 9, the auction will be held at the Ministry of Roads and Public Works (MoRPW) building in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, covering items from the Nairobi Regional office.
Activities then shift to Western Kenya, with auctions scheduled in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia on May 12.
The following day, May 13, will see auctions in multiple regions including Nyeri, Isiolo, Garissa, Kisumu, and Rongo, reflecting the national spread of the exercise.
On May 14, auctions will take place in the Coast and Rift Valley regions, with sales in Mombasa, Mariakani, and Eldoret.
Nakuru and Gilgil will host their auction events on May 15, while the final sale will be held at the Suswa Weighbridge Station on May 16, 2025.
KeNHA has emphasized that all auctions will begin at 11:00 am on the stated dates and encourages interested bidders to attend the viewing sessions ahead of time.
Other details of the auction
The appointed auctioneer for the exercise is M/s Trenad Auctioneers.
Viewing of items will be open to the public on weekdays from April 22 to May 16, 2025, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, prior to the auction dates.
To obtain a bidding number, interested bidders must deposit a refundable fee of Ksh50,000.00 for scrap metal and Ksh 5,000.00 for other lots. Payments must be made in cash to the KeNHA cash office at the respective Auction Centre by 10:00 am on the day of the auction to be eligible to bid.
Deposits made by unsuccessful bidders will be refunded.
Successful bidders are required to pay 25% of the purchase price in cash or deposit it to the KeNHA bank account (details provided in the auction catalogue) immediately at the fall of the hammer, with the remaining balance payable within 14 days.
KeNHA has also indicated that reservations have been made for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
All items will be sold on an “as-is-where-is” basis and are subject to reserved prices.
