Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Allan Kilavuka has been appointed the new chairperson of Africa’s Airlines Association (AFRAA).
Kenya Airways in a statement on Tuesday, November 19, made the announcement indicating that the appointment took place at the 56th Annual General Assembly and Summit in Cairo, Egypt.
Kilavuka will lead the association for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
“This appointment is a significant development that will shape the future of Africa’s aviation industry,” read the statement in part.

Responsibilities of the Kenya Airways CEO in the New Role
As the new AFRAA Chairperson, Kilavuka will be responsible for guiding AFRAA’s strategic direction.
Also, he has been tasked with representing the interests of its member airlines, and advocating for policies that promote the growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness of Africa’s aviation industry.
In his acceptance speech, Kilavuka expressed his gratitude, saying that he looked forward to undertaking his duties.
Additionally, he noted that he would work towards advancing Africa’s aviation industry
“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the role of AFRAA Chairperson. I am deeply appreciative of this opportunity and look forward to working alongside industry peers to amplify Africa’s voice in global aviation,
“Build on greater collaboration, and drive strategic initiatives to enable Africa’s airlines to navigate current challenges and seize new opportunities,” he said.

Kilavuka Takes Over from Mozambique Chairman
Kilavuka has succeeded João Carlos Pó Jorge, the outgoing Chairperson and CEO of LAM Mozambique, who has led AFRAA over the past two years.
He is expected to continue building upon the progress achieved during Jorge’s tenure, ensuring a smooth transition and a promising future for AFRAA.
Established in 1968, the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) is a coalition of over 40 airlines, including some of the continent’s leading carriers, accounting for more than 85% of Africa’s air transport operations.
AFRAA’s mission is to foster industry collaboration, support the growth of African airlines, and champion the sustainable development of the continent’s aviation sector.
