The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a scheduled system outage at the Kilindini Port on Thursday, May 1, 2025, to facilitate a fiber migration exercise.
A fiber migration exercise refers to the planned process of shifting data or system operations from one fiber-optic network infrastructure to another.

This is typically done to improve connectivity, increase bandwidth, enhance system reliability, or upgrade to newer technology.
According to the notice issued on Tuesday, April 30, all KRA systems at Kilindini Port will be inaccessible from 00:00 hrs to 23:59 hrs on Thursday.

All KRA systems at Kilindini Port will be unavailable during the outage, affecting all stations within the port.
The disruption will impact internal and external stakeholders, including all KRA staff based at Kilindini and clearing and shipping agents operating at the port.

“Notice: Planned System Outage at Kilindini Port On Thursday, 1st May 2025, KRA systems at Kilindini Port will be inaccessible from 00:00 hrs to 23:59 hrs to facilitate a fiber migration exercise,” read the notice in part.
The taxman apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked stakeholders for their understanding.

Past Maintenance
This comes just over a week after the KRA announced scheduled maintenance for its Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Module.
According to the notice, the maintenance was set to last 24 hours, starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, and ending at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19.
KRA stated that the affected systems would include the Supplier Relationship Management system, the Supplier Portal, and the Supplier Registration Portal.
The Supplier Relationship Management Module is a software tool designed to help organizations manage and strengthen their relationships with suppliers.

It goes beyond basic procurement by fostering strategic, collaborative partnerships aimed at maximizing value and minimizing risk.
Similarly, in January this year, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced a scheduled eight-hour shutdown of its Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS) for system maintenance.
According to a statement from the authority, the maintenance took place from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 12.
The iCMS, which was introduced during the second term of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, plays a crucial role in processing documentation for the import and export of goods at ports across the country.
