The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a scheduled maintenance of its iTax platform on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
In a notice dated March 31, KRA stated that during the said period, all users will be unable to access the platform or complete any tax-related transactions for about 30 minutes.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of iTax from Tuesday, 31st March 2026, 10:00 PM to Tuesday, 31st March 2026, 10:30 PM,” read part of the notice.
In addition, the authority advised users to plan their transactions in advance of the maintenance window and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
KRA Plans iTax Maintenance on Tuesday, March 31
The announcement comes as many Kenyans rush to file their annual tax returns ahead of the June 30 deadline, a period that typically sees heavy traffic on the iTax system, especially in the evenings.
The iTax system is a critical digital service used by individuals and businesses across Kenya to file tax returns, make payments, and access tax compliance services and key tax documents.

Elsewhere, KRA previously announced a crackdown on taxpayers who declare nil income despite having earned revenue.
The authority noted that it will introduce pre-filled tax returns, with known income streams already captured in the system.
Discrepancies will be flagged when KRA has supporting information, such as bank account transactions or third-party data.
According to Maurice Oray, Deputy Commissioner in the Policy and Tax Division, taxpayers will be required to confirm the accuracy of the information or provide an explanation if they dispute the figures.
He noted that even if someone files a nil return, the authority can track transactions, such as sales or other business activities, through its data.
Oray added that the same scrutiny applies to bank accounts, as KRA holds detailed records of financial transactions.
KRA Launches Ushuru Mashinani Service
The authority recently launched the Ushuru Mashinani Service initiative and invited businesses to become partners and support in the provision of tax services.
According to the authority, the initiative will enable approved partners to assist individuals and businesses with essential tax services.
KRA also noted that Ushuru Mashinani will reduce congestion at the service center and shorten the time taxpayers spend waiting for the service.

Additionally, the initiative will enhance the tax service by promoting accessibility, efficiency, and customer friendliness.
An application to become a tax service provider partner can be submitted by anyone with a computer and internet access at their business.
Businesses that qualify for the initiative will be responsible for bringing tax services closer to the grassroots levels.
The program is open for business service centers, entrepreneurs with access to computers and the internet, Cyber cafés, and ICT hubs, and existing KRA service providers looking to formalize their operations.
